Studio Truly Truly

Meet Studio Truly Truly, or rather Joel and Kate Booy. Originally from Australia, this creative designer duo is currently based in Dordrecht. They are inspired by visual art and are always looking for new ways to push existing design boundaries.

Jan des Bouvrie

Jan des Bouvrie is one of the most well-known Dutch furniture designers and has designed many pieces of furniture for Gelderland. Des Bouvrie studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He later worked in his parents' Goed Wonen furniture shop in Bussum where - in 1969 - he showed his first design sketches to Koene Oberman, Gelderland’s founder. Oberman was immediately convinced and Des Bouvries' first piece of furniture, the Cube Sofa, went into production that same year. In the following years, several of his leading designs were added to the Gelderland collection. Besides furniture, he also caused a furore as a designer of lighting, wallpaper and (mostly white) interiors. In 1993, he moved his design studio to Het Arsenaal in Naarden. Together with partner Monique des Bouvrie, he built a leading interior design institute there. Over the years, Des Bouvrie's designs have been rewarded numerous prizes and awards, including the Cultuurprijs in 1974, the Stijlprijs for his fauteuil 5470F in 1990 and the Meubelprijs for the seating series 6430 in 1999.

Stefan Scholten

Stefan Scholten (1972) is an internationally renowned name within the contemporary design world. Over the past 20 years, he has become one of its popular faces. Scholten has years of experience in designing furniture textiles. He is also known for his reduced forms and minimal design style combined with a unique use of colour. The designs are functional and applicable, but always expressive. Scholten's approach is also known as the 'Atelier Method'. During the design process, he thinks with his hands as much as possible. He keeps sketching, drawing and mixing colours until an original and new design emerges. Before a piece of furniture, wallpaper, textile or home accessory is ready for large-scale production, he first works on a scale or life-size model, usually with simple materials such as paper and cardboard. Scholten has been an architect since 1995 and designs for a variety of well-known brands such as Samsung, Ikea, Hay, Mini and Maharam. The prestigious design magazine Wallpaper crowned his work 'Best Design of the Year' in 2021.

Henk Vos

Henk Vos designed perhaps one of Gelderland's most famous pieces of furniture: the 4800 sofa. Vos studied interior architecture at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. After his father died in 1963, Henk took over the upholstery and furniture factory which grew into a leading interior design institute in the Netherlands. His bureau for interior architecture designed the interiors of, among others, the De Bijenkorf offices and the Conference Centre in Amsterdam. His interior design for the Kruisherenhotel in Maastricht won the European Design Award in 2005.

Bart Vos

The son of interior designer Henk Vos and brother of Roderick Vos, Bart Vos' love for design was instilled in him from a very young age. After secondary school, he - not surprisingly - started his studies at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. In 1996, Bart Vos designed the Vos Maupertuus shop in Groningen.

Carolina Wilcke

Designer Carolina Wilcke draws inspiration from natural shapes and materials. Her designs are characterised by balanced aesthetic proportions and pure materials. Her modern and architectural approach to the design process focuses on the search for the perfect aesthetic proportions. In 2008, Wilcke graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven. She works on a wide range of interior products, including furniture, lighting and accessories. The fact that she is also trained as a goldsmith brings a unique sophistication and detailing to her designs. Her work is not only stylish and aesthetic but also functional and practical. Wilke’s other important pillar is sustainability, she collaborates with local producers and uses durable, natural resources to produce her furniture. In the years since Spectrum first launched her furniture in 2015, Wilke has won several awards for her work. For instance, she received the 'Best Furniture Design' award at the Dutch Design Awards in 2015 and was nominated for the 'Young Design Award' by ELLE Decoration in 2016.

Arian Brekveld

Simplicity and functionality combined with craftsmanship are the keywords to describe designer Arian Brekveld (Apeldoorn, 1968). The strength of his designs lies in his perfectionism, which he effortlessly combines with spontaneity and flexibility. Brekveld graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1995 and has been working for various clients ever since.

Studio Scholten & Baijings

Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings formed a designer duo called Studio Scholten & Baijings between 2000 and 2019. The duo occupies a unique position within Dutch product design. Their work is minimalist, but at the same time rich in detail and expressive through craftsmanship and a measured colour palette.

Roderick Vos

Roderick Vos himself describes his design style with two powerful words: 'three-dimensional design'. That sounds rather high-tech, but it is not meant that way. When he designs, Vos likes to literally come into contact with all aspects of design, material handling and production already during the creative process. He therefore prefers to make prototypes by hand. Vos studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and was a trainee at Ingo Maurer in Munich and Kenji Ekuan in Tokyo. From 1990 to 1996, he ran his own design studio in Indonesia. Until 2004, he was heavily involved in the Vos family-run Maupertuus in Groningen. ‘My way of working is different from that of my contemporaries. I just scribble, go to my studio/workshop and immediately develop full-scale 3D prototypes there. I like craftsmanship, being on top of it.’ Vos' work has been nominated for the Dutch Design Awards several times. In 2018, with Social Label, he won a Dutch Design Award.

Lex Pott

At his design studio in Rotterdam, Lex Pott brings design back to nature. The origin of the material is central to his work, using wood, stone and metal in particular. He does not hide his designs under indirect layers but shows them in their essence. Pott graduated cum laude from the Design Academy Eindhoven. You can always tell from his designs what materials they are made of, under what circumstances, and with what techniques they were produced. His design process starts with extensive material research. He looks at what material does and is. Pott’s designs are all about purity and product traceability. Quality and craftsmanship combined with intuition and harmony characterise his design. Pott’s designs have won several awards, for instance, the Young Talent Pin in 2014. He was voted the No. 1 Dutch Design Talent by de Volkskrant in 2015.

Henk Vos & Roderick Vos

Dick Spierenburg

Dick Spierenburg is not only a designer but also an interior designer. He has a strong preference for simplicity, originality and quality. His style is characterised by the connection between value for the user and the feasibility of the design. Powerful design language and ethical balance are equally important.
