10020 Unfold

"The Unfold is a design where I literally folded the shape in paper to arrive at the current design. A shape that envelops you and supports your head. The paper also inspired me to design a light and thin upholstered piece of furniture. Light weight, thin and durable, but very comfortable thanks to the Gelderland experience.".

About Stefan (1972) and Carole (1973)

Stefan Scholten (1972) is an internationally known name within the design world. Over the past twenty years, he has become one of the face-setters of world-famous Dutch design. The prestigious design magazine Wallpaper recently crowned his work 'Best Design of the Year'. Since 1995 he has been running his own design office. The Amsterdam studio designs for various well-known brands such as Samsung, Ikea, Hay, Mini, Maharam, Gelderland and Lensvelt. Stefan Scholten has years of experience in designing furniture textiles. In addition, he is known for his reduced shapes and minimal design style in combination with a unique use of color. The designs are functional and applicable, but always expressive. Scholten's approach is also called the 'Atelier-Method'. During the design process, he thinks with his hands as much as possible. He continues to mix sketches, drawings and colors until an original and new design is created. Before a piece of furniture, wallpaper, textile or home accessory is ready for large-scale production, the Studio first works on a scale model or full-size model, usually with simple materials such as paper and cardboard.
