FURNITURE FOR GENERATIONS

Sustainability, quality, and comfort have formed the foundation for all Gelderland furniture since the delivery of our first piece in 1936. In collaboration with renowned and emerging designers, we create timeless furniture with a focus on people and the environment. High-quality materials are used in all Gelderland products, and every piece of furniture in the Gelderland collection is made entirely in the Netherlands.

Our products are handcrafted in our own factory in Culemborg. We offer a 20-year warranty on the beechwood frame and a 7-year warranty on upholstery fabrics, leather, and foam. Our unique strip upholstery makes it possible to reupholster Gelderland furniture, ensuring they last for generations.

GET TO KNOW OUR HISTORY

In 1936, Koene Oberman, the son of a Frisian wood trader, received 200 Guilders from his father to start his own business. In Culemborg, which had a long tradition of artisanal furniture manufacturing, he became one of the first to start the mass production of furniture. Thus, "Meubelindustrie Gelderland" was born. From the former Locomotive Warehouse at the station, Oberman expanded Gelderland into a major player.

Shortly after the war, he took his own airplane to achieve international growth. This led to foreign manufacturers producing Gelderland models. In the 1950s, Oberman hired external designers. Danish design by Ib Kofod Larssen was produced under license, and Rob Parry designed various pieces of furniture. In 1969, Jan des Bouvrie made his debut as a furniture designer with his Cube sofa. Following that tradition, many designers, such as Henk Vos and his sons Bart Vos and Roderick Vos, Scholten & Baijings, Lex Pott, and Studio Truly Truly, have followed. In short, Gelderland offers a beautiful showcase of Dutch design history.

ICONS AND DESIGNERS

Over its nearly 90-year history, Gelderland has produced many iconic designs. For example, Jan des Bouvrie's Cube Sofa (430) and Henk Vos's 4800 series, which are still relevant today. In the 1950s, Rob Parry's Lotus and 1611 armchairs were indispensable in Dutch living rooms. The rich history of the collection continues to be a source of inspiration for the designers with whom Gelderland collaborates.

Many of our classics can be seen at the RSGA Design Museum, which will soon open its doors at our Culemborg factory. Information about the museum's collection and the opportunity to visit it can be found here.
